FOR ALL. WORLDWIDE INNOVATION.
The Pinion E-Drive System
In the beginning there was the Mission ON.E - the goal was the development of a complete drive system that combines the gears and the motor in a single unit - a motor-gear-unit for e-bikes.
But it's about more than just the unity of motor and gearbox - also strong partnerships, such as between KETTLER and Pinion, also flow into the ON.E mission. KETTLER and Pinion stand for the highest quality 'Made in Germany'. Two German companies that have always relied on Germany as a location and stand for the highest quality and sustainable thinking and acting.
Pinion Motor.Gearbox.Unit (MGU)
Motor and gearbox unified: The Pinion Motor.Gearbox.Unit
is the next generation of e-bike technology. It combines a powerful electric motor with Pinion’s proven gearbox technology and electronic shifting to create a completely new drive system. This results in harmonious performance tailored to every gear combined with carefree, world-class shifting in the leading class.
The origin of the motor for the Pinion E-Drive system is a state-of-the-art, compact and wear-free brushless motor for industrial applications, manufactured in Germany. The motor has been extensively modified with stronger magnets and redesigned for use in an e-bike. The motor offers enormous reliability and highly dynamic power density without sacrificing shifting performance.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION IN ONE UNIT
- A compact, very powerful electric mid-engine with up to 12 integrated gear
- Maintenance interval? A 10-minute oil change after 10,000 km
- No exposed shifting components - motor and shifting are neatly integrated in the e-bike
- Reliable and easy-maintenance drive train, especially with Gates carbon beltdrive
PERFECT SHIFTING
The Pinion E-Drive system was developed as one unit. As a result, the drivetrain and motor do not fight each other. They are one. All drive components and control technology were specifically developed to work together and are combined in the MGU. This means, for example, that the system always knows which gear its rider is in and adapts its power perfectly to the rider’s cadence and needs. The result is an extremely smooth, connected and seamless ride feel unlike any other system on the market. The TE1 E-Trigger Shifter ensures that changing gears feels as satisfying at the fingers as it feels on the pedals.
INTUITIVE AND EASY TO USE
The Pinion E-Drive system offers 4 levels of support. "ECO" is designed for maximum range, while "FLY" fully utilizes the enormous power of the system at all times. The "FLOW" and "FLEX" levels, on the other hand, are adaptive driving modes that are progressive and adapt the level of support perfectly to every driving situation and terrain. A sensitive starting aid and extra boost at the push of a button complete the package. All modes can be individually adjusted to your own preferences in the smartphone app.
SMART. SHIFT FUNCTIONS
The engine speed is adapted to the gear selected and the cadence. This means that the speed and the support of the motor are precisely matched to the respective situation. Thanks to the Smart.Shift function, the MGU also knows when it would be best to shift. Through the Pre.Select and Start.Select function, the MGU can even carry out gear changes automatically. The Pinion Smart.Shift system can shift while driving, when stationary and under load! With Pre.Select, the system automatically switches to the perfect gear at any speed when riding without pedaling for a short while. Pedaling into the "void" on descents is a thing of the past. With Start.Select the MGU shifts into the desired preselected gear when starting off.
MAXIMUM RANGE
The latest generation of lithium-ion battery cells are used to supply the Pinion E-Drive system with energy. The various battery options are tailored to each application and capacity requirement. In addition to the user-friendly design and easy handling, the batteries offer another highlight: the long-life mode. The long-life mode enables intelligent charging and significantly increases the service life of the battery. A range extender option is available for even more range.
